On Wednesday 24 January 2018 two defendants who had been extradited from The Netherlands were sentenced for their part in a blackmail conspiracy. The case stemmed from a campaign involving animal rights extremism. Amongst other tactics the activists used overnight attacks on homes in Europe including the use of incendiary explosive devices, paint stripper and graffiti. Gemma White was instructed to prosecute in a multi-handed drugs conspiracy which arose from Operation Operative involving a complex investigation run by a major crime team. Jodie Mittell and Gemma White have successfully prosecuted the main class A drug networks discovered during “Operation Shield” in Southampton. Jodie led Gemma in the prosecution of the eight “Scouse” network defendants bringing drugs from Liverpool. In addition, Jodie prosecuted six defendants in the “Beer” network operating from London whilst Gemma dealt with the “Magic” network based in Southampton.
