Matthew Cannings appointed as a Recorder on the Western Circuit

The 270-barrister national chambers, 3PB Barristers (3 Paper Buildings), is delighted to announce that Matthew CanningsMatthew CanningsCall: 2006 - who heads 3PB's Property and Estates Group - has been appointed by His Majesty the King as a Recorder on the Western Circuit. His part-time judicial appointment takes effect from next Monday 18 November 2024.

Matthew was called to the bar in 2006 and was appointed as a part-time Deputy District Judge in 2019. Matthew has nearly twenty years’ experience in property and commercial litigation, alongside strong judicial review expertise and a developing sports law practice. He is frequently instructed in both advocacy and advisory work on cases in the High Court, County Court and various tribunals and frequently acts in ADR.

Matthew joins 21 other 3PB barristers who have been appointed Recorders, including those recently appointed in 2023 on the Western Circuit (which is covered by 3PB's three offices in Bristol, Bournemouth and Winchester), namely family barrister Emma Harman, joint head of 3PB's Crime team Jodie Mittell, fellow criminal barrister Gemma White, personal injury barrister Tom Webb and associate member and specialist criminal barrister Kate Lumsdon KC.
