Judicial Review: an overview for commercial practitioners
23rd May 2023
3PB Barristers’ (3 Paper Buildings) specialist public law barrister Matthew Wyard has written a practical overview of judicial review, designed to assist commercial practitioners in serving their clients with “practical, cost-effective solutions to the impact of increased regulation”.
In his article, Matthew acknowledges that judicial review was once seen as relating to areas of the law in which individuals looked to challenge the State in pursuance of their fundamental rights, but explains how, with the increase in industry and commercial regulation, companies and commercial entities are now bringing judicial review challenges in order to protect their business interests.
This overview includes, but is not limited to, such topics as an insightful guide into how judicial review works and a guide to some of the types of challenges that could be brought, the available remedies, and advice on the procedure under which judicial review claims are brought.

3PB’s Public and Regulatory Law team will be hosting a webinar series on defending judicial review. Matthew will be hosting the first of the three web sessions, alongside fellow 3PB barrister Jim Hirschmann. The webinars will take place at 11am on the 1 June, 22 June, and 12 July.
