3PB (3 Paper Buildings) is pleased to announce that crime and regulatory barrister Ben ThompsonBen ThompsonCall: 2022, based in Bournemouth, has become a full tenant of the 270-barrister national chambers after successfully completing his probationary tenancy.

Ben is a busy and versatile practitioner on the Western Circuit, having joined 3PB from the CPS where he had completed his pupillage.

As a prosecutor, Ben has been entrusted with serious cases, recently securing a just sentence in a controlling and coercive behaviour case after methodically presenting the facts with the victim in attendance. He also recently prosecuted a man for sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy. Alongside his CPS work, he regularly prosecutes for local authorities, ensuring high standards in disclosure, ethics, and case management.

On the defence side, Ben has successfully appealed convictions, securing not guilty verdicts for clients, and has mitigated effectively in serious cases, including persuading the court to impose a community order rather than immediate custody for a third-strike bladed article offence due to his client’s medical condition. Ben has earned praise for his ability to handle unrepresented defendants with tact when prosecuting and build trust with vulnerable clients when defending.

Jodie Mittell KC, who co-heads 3PB's 30-strong team of crime and regulatory crime barristers, said: ““Huge congratulations to Ben. I am delighted to welcome him as a full member of chambers. I know Ben will be an excellent addition to 3PB.”
