Overview

Emily Hayward is a pupil barrister who is focused on civil law disputes, particularly commercial, property and personal injury. She commenced pupillage in October 2024 and is working from 3PB's Bristol office.

Prior to joining 3PB, she was a Paralegal in Slaughter and May’s Disputes and Investigation Team in London, working on a number of high-profile commercial litigation and antitrust matters including the Vodafone CPO, FDIC Libor and the £5 billion BHP civil lawsuit.

She draws on broad experience, having assisted a prominent Silk with a complex counterterrorism matter involving the protection of third party legal professional privilege in the Investigatory Powers Tribunal. She also assisted two Silks on a Judicial Review of the Agriculture Act 2020 and conducted legal research with a view to strategic litigation regarding breaches of Article 3 of the ECHR arising out of the Imprisonment for Public Protection Regime for the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies.

Emily has exceptional commercial awareness, having worked as a Private Equity Associate at Korn Ferry International’s London Office.

Prior to coming to the Bar, Emily worked for Advocates for International Development (A4ID), brokering pro bono legal advice between NGOs and magic circle / multi-national law firms, co-organising a legal clinic hosted by Latham & Watkins LLP.

Emily graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Sussex, with a focus on Public International Law and Intellectual Property, supervised by Editor and Chief of the Journal of World Intellectual Property, Dr Andres Guadamuz.

Outside of busy work demands, Emily is a black belt in Aikido and enjoys playing classical piano
