Emily Hayward (Call: 2022) joined 3PB from Slaughter and May's Disputes and Investigations Team and continues to grow her busy commercial (including contract disputes and debt recovery), company (breach of fiduciary duty, shareholder disputes and derivative claims) competition (including group litigation / CPOs) and insolvency practice. She is also rapidly developing her ESG litigation practice. Emily has been instructed on matters before courts and tribunals at all levels.

While at Slaughter and May, she worked on several high profile commercial, company and competition matters including the Vodafone CPO, the FDIC Libor dispute and the £5 billion BHP civil lawsuit.

Outside of busy work demands, Emily enjoys working towards her 1st Dan Black Belt in Aikido, playing classical piano and spending time with her horse, Boromir.

    • Advised on a £2.3 million cross-border commercial dispute involving alleged breaches of fiduciary duty and breach of contract.
    • Acted for a listed business in securing a mandatory injunction, involving enforcement proceedings outside of the jurisdiction.

    • As a passionate equestrian and former Prix St. Georges Dressage competitor, Emily has a wealth of experience with issues esoteric to the equestrian community including sale / purchase disputes, enforcement of loan agreements, bloodstock contracts, livery agreement disputes and equine insurance disputes.
    • Advised a large training yard on their prospects of success in bringing a breach of contract claim against a bloodstock business based in the Netherlands.
    • Advised on a six-figure claim for breach of contract and loss of profits involving the purchase of a showjumping prospect.

    • Led by Philip Rule KC, contributed amicus curiae submissions on the constitutionality of the death penalty to the Easter Caribbean Supreme Court in St Kitts and Nevis.
    • Advised the Institute of Now and the Centre for Crime and Justice Studies on bringing an application to the European Court of Justice regarding putative breaches of Article 3 arising out of the treatment of prisoners serving IPP sentences.
    • Panellist on the Falls Curfew Inquiry in Belfast with a view to formulating written recommendations to the Northern Irish Government and UK Secretary of State for Northern Ireland.
