Overview

Alexander (Alex) Jurczynski is a crime and regulatory pupil barrister, based in Winchester. He is undertaking pupillage alongside army officer training, and is due to commission as a captain within the Army Legal Services in April 2026.

After an early career as a consultant, Alex transitioned to law, focusing the research component of his GDL on assessing the emerging legacy of the Corporate Manslaughter and Corporate Homicide Act 2007. Prior to joining 3PB, Alex worked as a paralegal at the Service Prosecuting Authority headquarters at RAF Northolt. This authority is the counterpart to the CPS within the Service Justice System, and is responsible for the prosecution of criminal and disciplinary offences within the UK Armed Forces at the court martial. His duties ranged from analysing service police case referrals and processing casework, through to assisting prosecutors at trial as an Assistant Prosecuting Officer. During this time, he undertook further structured advocacy training alongside legal officers within the SPA, including the Advocacy Training and Assessment Programme, New Prosecuting Officers' Programme, and CPS-accredited training in prosecuting RASSO cases.

Following his experience at the Service Prosecuting Authority, in April 2025 Alex was chosen for the inaugural Army Legal Services Cadetship. This involves undertaking a 12-month criminal pupillage at 3PB, followed by a commissioning course at Sandhurst and further legal training in military law, including the law of armed conflict.

Prior to Alex’s work in the armed forces, he worked for Thomson Reuters on the launch and development of Reuters Legal News. As a senior legal news insights analyst, Alex combined data analytics with legal industry insight to assist in providing the breaking news, analysis, and competitive intelligence which helped build the company’s legal news cycle and reputation as a trusted industry news source. He was also seconded as an associate editor of Practical Law Litigation, drafting standard documents, checklists, and other legal research tools now used by lawyers worldwide, as well as analysing SEC settlement agreements and litigation for Practical Law's 'What's Market' platform.

Alex is also passionate about pro bono legal work. As a Free Representation Unit social security representative, he advised on an appeal to the First-tier Tribunal and has been a casework volunteer with the pro bono charity Advocate, where he was named as volunteer of the month.

After his undergraduate degree, Alex also spent a year on Arsenal F.C's gap-year programme, working as a youth-development football coach and gaining a FA level 1 coaching qualification and FA Youth Award, in addition to becoming FA-accredited in coaching disabled football players. Outside of work, Alex is a keen cyclist, badminton player, and saxophonist.
