3PB's Tom Evans and Tim Bradbury in successful South Coast prosecutions
1st November 2019
3PB's criminal law barristers Tim Bradbury and Tom Evans successfully prosecuted jewellery thieves. Earlier this year, in March 2019, an armed raid took place at J Franses Jewellers in Bournemouth and over £600,000 worth of jewellery and watches was stolen. Following a trial at Southampton Crown Court, three defendants have been found guilty for their role in the conspiracy: Jonathan Oriba acted as a getaway driver for the armed robbers; Rowan McLauglin provided a base in Bournemouth where their stolen motorcycles were stored in the days leading up to the robbery, and; Sophie Rivers sought to provide her boyfriend with a false alibi on Snapchat. They, along with four others who had already entered guilty pleas, will be sentenced on 28th November 2019.

3PB's Tom Evans also successfully prosecuted a case this month in which the defendant was found to have engaged in a spree of offending including kidnap, two aggravated burglaries and an attempted robbery. In total, the defendant was convicted by a jury at the Crown Court in Bournemouth of 13 offences including historical allegations of violence. HHJ Climie determined that the defendant was a ‘dangerous’ offender and sentenced him to 15 years’ imprisonment with an extended licence period of 5 years.
