Judge and family barrister Kushner returns to private practice with 3PB

Family barrister Martine Kushner has joined national chambers 3 Paper Buildings (3PB) after a two year contract as the resident judge in the Falklands Islands. She had previously spent 36 years as a busy family lawyer doing multi-day and complex cases from her Birmingham-based Chambers.

She has considerable experience of analysing and interpreting complex expert reports (including medical) in private and public law children cases.  She is also regarded as a strong court advocate with a real aptitude for representing vulnerable clients, in particular those with learning disabilities and mental health difficulties.

Martine was the single resident judge on the Falkland Islands and South Georgia from 2016 to 2018, a jurisdiction equivalent to Circuit Judge and was also appointed Judge of the Supreme Court i.e. s9 powers.

Martine is also co-author of Family Law and the Human Rights Act 1998, published by Jordans and, for over a decade, has also been a lecturer for Jordans on Family Law Updates (both Public and Private Law).

Martine is regularly instructed by local authorities, respondents and guardians in all aspects of public law including special guardianship orders and adoption orders. She has dealt with numerous cases involving significant harm from neglect and failure to protect through to severe emotional abuse causing psychological damage to children, as well as cases involving serious physical and sexual abuse of children. She has also chaired a number of conferences on the medical aspects of child abuse.
