Matiss Krumins joins 3PB's expanding Family Law Team in Birmingham
9th March 2017
Former Birmingham City Council Principal Solicitor Matiss Krumins has joined 3PB's growing family team based in Birmingham on Colmore Circus.
Matiss was called to the Bar in 2008 and qualified as a solicitor in 2011. As a specialist in public law children proceedings and judicial review he will be bringing to Chambers a detailed understanding of care proceedings and the regulatory framework of child protection/children in care.
Matiss said: “Having made the decision to join the independent bar I wanted to join a Chambers that was growing, ambitious and committed to building an exceptional team in Birmingham – a city which is very close to my heart. 3PB is a well-established national Chambers and is well placed to support me in building my family and childcare practice. I am looking forward to joining Elizabeth McGrath QC and the other members of the family team at 3PB.
“I am keen to use my experience of being in-house to support local private practice solicitors and local authorities in care proceedings as well as in Court of Protection matters, judicial review and human rights cases.”
3PB is one of the UK’s largest barristers’ chambers with over 180 specialist counsel.
Matiss has significant experience and expertise in care proceedings, including complex cases involving non-accidental injury, sexual abuse, fictitious and induced illness, cases with a foreign element and cases involving children with life-limiting conditions. Matiss has also worked on high profile and technically difficult cases such as those involving the death of a parent or child.
Matiss has knowledge of the Court of Protection where he has experience of welfare applications on behalf of disabled children and the application of the deprivation of liberty regime to children in local authority care.
His extensive in-house experience makes Matiss well placed to make representation on judicial review and human rights matters along with local government regulatory matters.
Elizabeth McGrath QC said: “It is fantastic news that Matiss is joining us. He will add considerable in house expertise to our strong family team as well as his work in the Court of Protection, judicial reviews and human rights matters alongside experience with local government and regulatory matters.”
