3PB Barristers’ family team raises over £5000 for Advocate and Bfriends
4th July 2024
3PB Barristers’ family group has made a donation of £2,648.50 to Advocate; and a further £2,648.50 to Bfriends.
Advocate matches people in need of legal advice with barristers willing to take on cases on a pro bono basis. Bfriends is the official charity of Birmingham Children’s Trust and creates life opportunities for children in care.
The donations are the proceeds of the group’s Private Law and Financial Remedies Family Law Conference 2024 which took place in May at Birmingham Repertory Theatre. The sell-out event raised a surplus thanks to ticket sales and the support of sponsors with the proceeds all going to these two charities.
Natalie Loon, Operations and Fundraising Manager for Bfriends (pictured) said: “This donation will make a huge difference to Bfriends (Friends of Birmingham Children’s Trust charity) in our work with children in care and care leavers.
“We work closely in partnership with Birmingham Children’s Trust gaining a close understanding of the additional things that children known to the trust need. This could be access to sporting and wellbeing programmes, access to employment opportunities, support moving into independent living. Essentially Bfriends ensures it is aware of all the additional things that would support the lives of children to give them opportunities and experiences that their peers may have access to or experienced in life.”
Advocate’s Midlands Caseworker, Charlotte Green (pictured) said: “We’re delighted that 3PB selected us as one of their charity partners for this event. This generous donation will be well spent supporting our mission to find free legal advice for people who are unable to obtain legal aid and cannot afford to pay. We could only provide the service that we do to people in need of access to justice with the support of committed barristers such as those at 3PB.”
Head of 3PB’s family law group Vanessa Meachin KC said: “We hope that the donations can assist both charities in continuing their vital work. As well as providing a useful and informative day of presentations for our delegates we are delighted that we have been able to deliver this benefit to two fantastic charities. We are very grateful to our headline sponsor H-J Wealth Planning Ltd, for all their support. We would also like to thank all the other sponsors and exhibitors for supporting our event including DNA Legal, OurFamilyWizard, Lexis Nexis and Today's Family Lawyer without whom the conference – and these donations – would simply not have been possible.”
