3PB’s Gemma White appointed to the First Tier Tribunal (mental health jurisdiction)
25th January 2023
3PB are delighted to announce that barrister Gemma White, pictured here, has been appointed a fee-paid judge of the First Tier Tribunal and will be sitting in the Health and Social Care Chamber in the Mental Health Tribunal. As this is a part-time appointment, Gemma will continue to practice as a barrister alongside sitting and remains available for instruction.
The Mental Health Tribunal is an independent body whose role is to hear applications and references for people who have had their liberty restricted under the Mental Health Act 1983 (as amended). These include patients who are detained in a hospital as well as those who are living in the community but subject to legal restrictions under the Mental Health Act.
Gemma was called to the Bar in 2009 and appointed a Deputy District Judge (Magistrates Court) last year. She specialises in crime, sports and regulatory law, particularly across the Western Circuit.
To instruct Gemma or contact her, please email her clerk Stuart Pringle on [email protected] or by calling him on 01962 868884.
