3PB shows a 20% jump in fees since the pandemic
5th April 2023
National chambers 3 Paper Buildings (3PB), buoyed by the arrival of 20 new members since the beginning of 2020, has announced a rise of 20.5% increase on pre-pandemic receipts/turnover since 2019/20 to £31.6m.
“The strong performance of the business is a huge credit to our outstanding barristers, clerks and staff,” said Simon Astill, 3PB’s Chief Executive, pictured here. “It has been an exceptional effort, particularly in light of the Covid-19 pandemic and the necessary actions taken by criminal barristers over legal aid fees. We are seeing high quality instructions across all practice areas.”
3PB also announced that average member earnings have increased significantly over the last three years from pre-pandemic levels across all practice areas, while members’ contributions remain below 20% of individual earnings.
“Our expansion strategy is based on attracting the highest quality work and the highest quality barristers,” Simon Astill said. “This is fuelling our growth and attracting applications from barristers from all over the UK and internationally.” “From the outset of Covid-19, we were determined to keep the lights on and be busy in terms of plans for growth, investment in the business in IT, training and knowledge/research, marketing and pupillage recruitment.”
David Berkley KC, Head of Chambers at 3PB, said: “These are extraordinarily strong results. This coming year will see 3PB investing in improving our offices in the Inner Temple and Bristol whilst continuing to invest across all areas of the business, particularly technology, and will be maintaining our marketing and recruitment initiatives too.
3 Paper Buildings (3PB) has 235 full and associate members, including 14 silks; and 9 pupil barristers. The chambers are based in London, Winchester, Bournemouth, Bristol, Oxford and Birmingham.
