Francisca enjoys a good rapport with her clients and tribunal, and strives to provide a friendly, efficient and thorough response to those instructing. She specialises in criminal and public regulatory law, and advises and represents all sides in all areas of her practice.
Francisca predominantly appears in the Crown Court, but she also works in the Magistrates' Court, the Court of Appeal, the Privy Council, Courts Martial and specialist tribunals.
Francisca has a strong grounding in defence work, but also features on the CPS Approved List of Advocates for the Western Circuit.
Francisca has both prosecuted and defended a broad range of criminal offences including drug supply, drug smuggling and cultivation, violence, rape and sexual assaults upon adults and minors, kidnap and false imprisonment, fraud and deception, murder, manslaughter, and road traffic matters.
Francisca undertakes work on behalf of all parties in public law and regulatory matters. She is regularly instructed by local authorities and government agencies including the DWP, HMRC, Trading Standards and the Police. She has experience of housing, environmental, licensing (taxi and premises), asset forfeiture and POCA cases.
In addition to her practice, Francisca provides CPD accredited lectures in her field of expertise, and is happy to discuss individual lecture requirements.
Francisca devotes her spare time to dog walking, food and wine, travel, musical theatre, Private Eye and all things Portuguese. She also provides the vocals for ‘Five Bar’, the 3PB band!

Representation of a Brazilian ‘flasher’ who was acquitted on a technical mens rea defence.
R v Carroll
Acted for a schizophrenic Defendant dubbed ‘The Goldilocks Burglar’ by he Daily Mail.
R v Chisanga
Acted for the Appellant in an appeal against sentence. The Court of Appeal quashed a life sentence for rape and replaced it with 10 years determinate.

Prosecution of a conspiracy to supply £45,000 worth of cannabis.
R v Eaton & others
Prosecution of a complex conspiracy to commit a number of burglaries.
R v Farfar
Prosecution of a defendant charged with inflicting 7 bites to the victim's legs. The defence of not guilty by reason of insanity was raised.
R v Gibbon & others
Junior in a 9 handed conspiracy to supply cocaine. The prosecution was brought following the recording of 150 hours of audio surveillance material. The evidence raised PII difficulties.
R v Graham
Acquittal of a self confessed stalker on a ‘reasonable in all circumstances’ defence.
R v Jelley & Nunn
Junior in a £3 million ‘ponzi scheme’ conspiracy to defraud. The case involved over 30 Complainants who had been coaxed into investing in an illegal property venture.
R v Lloyd
Defence of a teenager charged with sexually assaulting 2 minors aged 8 and 9. The case involved cross examination of 4 children under the age of 10.

Junior in a 2 month 5 handed kidnap, rape and conspiracy to supply Class A drugs trial.
R v Wright
Junior for the Defence in a murder trial. The defendant was acquitted of murder and sentenced for manslaughter.
Samuel Robie v The Queen
Junior for the Appellant in an appeal against conviction to the Privy Council. The Appellant had been convicted of murder in Jamaica and sentenced to 15 years hard labour.

Acted for the local authority in a sensitive matter where a 16 year old was placed on the Sex Offenders Register.
Dorset Police v AS
Successful application for forfeiture of £25,000 cash found buried in a garden.
Dorset Police v CW
Defence of the Respondent involved the first ‘VOO’ application in the county.
