From time to time, an individual (or company) may become embroiled in a dispute with another over alleged defamatory statements, in business or in personal life and either as potential claimant or defendant.  It is often necessary to act quickly and, since the law as regards defamation is highly technical and the costs of litigation in this area potentially very high, quality advice obtained at an early stage is crucial to obtaining the best outcome in the circumstances.  3PB has a number of members with expertise in this area who can provide such advice and, if early settlement is not possible, take the proceedings all the way to trial.

3PB members have considerable experience providing advice and representation in both the High Court and County Court and acting for both claimants and defendants, individuals, companies and other organisations.  Specific expertise includes:

  • Actions in protection of professional reputation
  • Libellous statements published on the internet
  • Qualified privilege / malice
  • Malicious falsehood
  • Interim strike-out / summary judgment applications
  • Jury trials
